Yahukimo – Following up on a gunfight that occurred on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the Carstensz 2026 Peace Operation Task Force immediately conducted an investigation and further investigation. Based on the results of this investigation, the Task Force quickly pursued the perpetrators, suspected of being part of the KKB (Armed Criminal Group) from the XVI Yahukimo Regional Military Command (KODAP). As part of this series of efforts, the Carstensz 2026 Peace Operation Task Force conducted tactical patrols followed by sweeps in the Yahukimo area, Papua, from Friday (April 17) night to Saturday (April 18).
This activity focused on several routes known to be frequently used by armed criminal groups (KKB), as part of a preventative measure to anticipate potential security disturbances.
In addition to monitoring, personnel also conducted sweeps at several locations suspected of being transit points for the group. This effort aims to ensure the area is safe and minimize potential threats that could impact security stability in the region.
During a sweep of the PT Indo Papua Camp, suspected of being a stopover for members of the KKB Kodap XVI Yahukimo, the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force also secured several items, including 133 arrows, 17 bows, 8 machetes, 3 axes, 2 axe heads, 1 wooden axe, 6 air rifles, 1 bayonet, and 1 mobile phone.
These tactical patrols and sweeps are part of a measured security approach, prioritizing early detection to prevent potential disturbances before they escalate.
The Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation 2026, Inspector General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., explained that this activity is a strategic step in maintaining security stability in the Papua region, particularly in areas with a high level of vulnerability.
“Tactical patrols and sweeps are being conducted as part of preventative measures to ensure the region remains secure. We continue to prioritize measured steps to minimize potential security disturbances,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of the Cartenz 2026 Peace Operation, Senior Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., emphasized that similar activities will continue to be carried out on an ongoing basis with a systematic approach.
“We continue to strengthen preventative measures through patrols and monitoring at points with potential for vulnerability. This is crucial to maintaining the security situation,” he explained.
The Deputy Head of the Public Relations Task Force for the Cartenz 2026 Peace Operation, Senior Commissioner of Police Andria, S.I.K., when confirmed by the media (April 18), added that this series of activities was a direct follow-up to the gunfire incident that occurred on April 15, 2026, in Samboga Village, Seredala District, Yahukimo, during a routine patrol conducted in conjunction with the Yahukimo Police.
“Following the incident, we immediately conducted an investigation and in-depth investigation, then quickly pursued the perpetrators. The tactical patrols and sweeps conducted on April 17-18 are part of the follow-up measures to ensure the situation remains under control,” he said.
He also explained that the results of these activities indicate the security situation is under control, and that sweeps were conducted along vulnerable routes and at points suspected of being transit points for the group.
“During these operations, we also secured several items suspected of being related to the activities of the armed group. This is part of our early detection and prevention efforts to prevent potential disturbances from developing,” he added.
Furthermore, AKBP Andria emphasized that the Carstensz Peace Operation Task Force is committed to maintaining security stability in Papua, particularly in the Yahukimo region, through preventive and preemptive measures, as well as law enforcement carried out professionally, firmly, and measuredly.
“All activities are carried out transparently, prioritizing the protection and safety of the community. These efforts will continue to be carried out sustainably and systematically,” he emphasized.
The Carstensz 2026 Peace Operation Task Force emphasized that patrols and security activities will continue to be increased as part of its commitment to maintaining security stability in Papua, so that the community can carry out their daily activities more safely and comfortably.
