Jayapura – Papuan church leader, Reverend Yones Wenda, urged the Papuan people to express their aspirations in accordance with the laws of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), to avoid clashes or conflicts that could potentially disrupt public order and security.
“Every activity to express aspirations must be carried out in accordance with applicable laws to avoid negative impacts on the community,” Wenda said on Monday (April 6, 2026).
According to Wenda, unauthorized demonstrations could result in law enforcement action by security forces. He admitted to having received information that a demonstration would be held on Tuesday (April 7, 2026) at the Papua Provincial DPRP office, allegedly without a permit from security forces.
Nevertheless, he urged the Papuan people to maintain security and order in Papua, ensuring a safe and conducive situation. This, he said, would allow community activities, particularly in meeting daily needs, to proceed smoothly.
“Let us protect ourselves, protect our community, and keep this land of Papua safe and secure, so that people can freely seek their livelihoods,” he said.
He also specifically advised students to remain focused on their education and not be influenced by actions that could jeopardize their future.
“To the students, I hope you will continue to attend your lectures diligently. You are the next generation who will lead Papua in the future, so do not get involved in activities that could harm your studies,” he said.
He also called on all elements of society to work together to support the security forces in maintaining public order and security in Papua and to maintain unity for the sake of peace.
“Once again, I implore all Papuans not to get involved in these demonstrations. Let us work together to maintain security and peace in the Land of Papua. God bless us all,” he said.
