Nabire – The Central Papua Regional Police have uncovered the circulation of a hoax photo claiming to depict a victim of the riot in Dogiyai Regency. The photo, which has been circulating on social media and messaging apps, has been proven to be an old document from another region.
AKBP I Made Suartika, Head of Public Relations for the Central Papua Regional Police, stated that the circulating photo is unrelated to the recent events in Dogiyai. The spread of this misinformation has the potential to mislead the public and worsen the security situation in Central Papua.
The photo was uploaded by the KNPB News Nabire account and widely circulated via WhatsApp, claiming to depict the riot in Dogiyai. However, after further investigation, it was discovered that the photo actually depicts an incident in Sanggeng, Manokwari Regency, West Papua, not Dogiyai.
Furthermore, another image purported to depict a victim of the riot in Dogiyai on March 31, 2026, was not a recent incident. The image was previously published on February 27, 2026, in a Papuan media outlet.
With this clarification, the Central Papua Regional Police (Polda Papua Tengah) confirms that the security situation in Dogiyai is currently safe and conducive. Authorities continue to increase patrols and surveillance to anticipate potential disturbances to public order and security.
The Central Papua Regional Police urge the public not to easily believe information from unknown sources, not to disseminate unverified content, and to work together to maintain a conducive security situation. They hope the public will be more discerning in receiving and filtering information to avoid being influenced by issues that could divide unity.
