Nabire — A joint operation conducted by Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) personnel, comprising the Habema Task Force, Rajawali Task Force, and the 2026 Operation Damai Cartenz Task Force, carried out a law enforcement action against a wanted fugitive who claimed to be the Commander of Kodap III D Dulla Aibon Kogoya on Sunday (March 1, 2026) at approximately 10:40 p.m. Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT).
During the operation, an exchange of fire occurred between security forces and an armed criminal group (KKB), which subsequently fled the scene, abandoning a hideout they had reportedly controlled. Officers successfully secured the location and confiscated a number of significant pieces of evidence.
The enforcement action was launched after authorities received intelligence regarding the group’s presence at one of their suspected hideouts. As joint personnel approached the site, the armed group opened fire, prompting a gunfight. After some time, the group retreated, leaving behind various equipment and logistical supplies at the base.
A search of the location resulted in the seizure of 561 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, suitable for both long-barreled and short-barreled firearms, along with 10 magazines, including magazines for SS1 and AK-101 assault rifles. Officers also confiscated 12 mobile phones, five handheld radios (HTs), and cash amounting to Rp79,900,000.
Among the notable findings were two mobile phones suspected to have belonged to victims of previous violent incidents. One phone is believed to have belonged to a member of the Brimob Battalion C who was killed in an attack last year. The other is suspected to belong to a civilian employee or security personnel involved in the arson attack on a security post belonging to PT Kristalin in Nabire several weeks ago.
Head of Public Relations for the 2026 Operation Damai Cartenz Task Force, Senior Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., emphasized that the operation reflects the state’s firm commitment to ensuring public safety.
“This is a manifestation of the state’s commitment to be present in the midst of society when acts of violence occur. The TNI-Polri will not remain silent. We will continue pursuing and taking legal action against members of armed criminal groups until they are held accountable in accordance with the law,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Chief of the 2026 Operation Damai Cartenz, Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., urged the public to remain calm and not be influenced by unofficial information.
“We urge the public to stay calm and not be influenced by unverified information. Security forces will act decisively against anyone attempting to create unrest or disrupt stability.
This law enforcement effort is solely aimed at protecting the community and maintaining public order,” he said.
As of now, joint security forces continue to sweep the surrounding area to ensure the situation is fully secure while pursuing those who fled.
Law enforcement operations will proceed in a measured and professional manner to safeguard stability in the Papua region.
