Papua Provincial Government and Canadian Embassy Strengthen Collaboration on Child Protection

Jayapura – The Papua Provincial Government has strengthened its collaboration with the Embassy of Canada in Indonesia to enhance child protection efforts across Papua. The strengthened partnership was discussed during an official coordination meeting focusing on strategic programs aimed at fulfilling children’s rights and preventing violence against children in the region.

The collaboration emphasizes the improvement of child protection systems, including stronger support services, public education initiatives, and capacity building for relevant institutions in handling cases of violence involving children.

The Papua Provincial Government reaffirmed that child protection remains a priority and requires cross-sector involvement. Meanwhile, the Canadian Embassy expressed its commitment to supporting the provincial government through program cooperation, knowledge exchange, and policy strengthening that prioritizes the best interests of children.

The Head of the Papua Provincial Office for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection stated that the partnership is important to ensure child protection programs reach communities down to the village level.

“Child protection is not only the responsibility of the government, but a shared duty. This collaboration with the Canadian Embassy is a positive step to strengthen services, education, and prevention efforts against violence toward children in Papua,” the official said.

Meanwhile, a representative of the Canadian Embassy emphasized Canada’s support for the Papua Provincial Government, particularly in strengthening local capacity and promoting a community-based approach.

“Canada supports the Papua Provincial Government’s efforts to create a safe and child-friendly environment. We believe this strengthened collaboration can deliver tangible impacts in fulfilling children’s rights in Papua,” the representative said.

Through this synergy, both parties hope that child protection efforts in Papua will become more targeted, sustainable, and beneficial to the community, especially in building a safer, healthier, and more child-friendly environment.
