YAHUKIMO – The swift response of security forces once again ensured the safety of residents in Papua’s remote interior. Joint personnel of the Task Force of Operation Damai Cartenz 2026 and the Yahukimo Police moved quickly to secure the KM 7 route in Maroku Village following reports of gunfire disturbance by unidentified individuals on Sunday morning (February 1, 2026).
The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. local time when a pickup truck driven by Abdul Kadir (42), carrying two passengers, Peres Kusa (23) and Luktar Pasomba (46), was passing through the area. The three individuals reportedly saw a group of armed persons on the roadside moments before several gunshots were fired toward their vehicle.
Despite the tense situation, all three civilians managed to escape unharmed. One of the passengers briefly sought shelter in nearby bushes before reuniting with the others once the situation was deemed safe. An initial inspection by security personnel found no bullet impacts on the vehicle.
Upon receiving the report, the Operation Damai Cartenz 2026 Task Force immediately conducted a sweep of the area, secured the route, and collected statements from the victims to ensure the situation remained under control and that community activities were not disrupted.
The Head of Operation Damai Cartenz 2026, Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, emphasized that the presence of the state through the Indonesian National Police is aimed at providing maximum protection to the public.
“The safety of civilians is our top priority. Our personnel responded swiftly to secure the route and ensure that the community can carry out their activities without fear. The Police are present to protect,” Faizal stressed.
He added that security forces are continuing to investigate information regarding the suspected presence of armed criminal groups around the Logpon area and KM 7, while simultaneously strengthening preventive measures.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of Operation Damai Cartenz 2026, Senior Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, urged the public to remain calm and maintain active communication with security personnel.
“We have intensified patrols and security at vulnerable points. The public should not panic, but immediately report any suspicious activity. Community cooperation is vital in maintaining collective security,” he said.
Following the incident, the KM 7 route in Maroku Village has been secured, and community activities have gradually returned to normal. Security personnel remain on standby to ensure the situation stays under control.
Through swift, firm, and humane actions, Operation Damai Cartenz 2026 once again reaffirmed the Indonesian National Police’s commitment to maintaining security stability in Papua and providing a sense of safety for all residents.
