Jayawijaya – The Jayawijaya Police Resort (Polres Jayawijaya), Papua Pegunungan, has urged all residents to help maintain public security and order, particularly at the beginning of the new year.
Jayawijaya Police Chief AKBP Anak Agung Made Satriya Bimantara, speaking in Wamena on Thursday, emphasized that maintaining public security is not solely the responsibility of the police, but of all elements of society.
“Security is not only the duty of the police, but also the responsibility of all members of the community across 328 villages and four urban wards to help create peace at the start of this new year,” he said.
According to him, one of the key efforts to maintain security stability is by refraining from selling and consuming alcoholic beverages, which often become a primary trigger for criminal acts.
“We have issued appeals ahead of Christmas 2025 through the 2026 New Year for the public to avoid consuming alcoholic beverages, as they can lead to security disturbances,” he explained.
He added that many cases of traffic accidents, stabbings, and inter-tribal clashes often originate from alcohol consumption.
“Let us work together to protect ourselves, our families, and our surroundings so that Jayawijaya remains peaceful and safe, allowing social and economic activities to run smoothly,” he said.
The police chief also called on the public to support efforts to prevent crime by providing accurate information regarding the circulation of narcotics within the jurisdiction of Polres Jayawijaya.
“Let us protect our children from ever coming into contact with drugs of any kind, as they can destroy their future. Encourage more positive activities for our children, such as church programs, sports, arts, scouting, and other constructive activities, so they can build resilience and avoid negative influences,” he concluded.
