Puncak — Life in Omukia District, Puncak Regency, Central Papua, is gradually returning to normal. A strong sense of togetherness is evident as residents unite in a communal clean-up to prepare for the upcoming Christmas and New Year 2026 celebrations.
The environmental clean-up was made possible with support from the Chairman of the Puncak Regional People’s Council (DPRK), Thomas Tabuni. On November 8, 2025, he distributed grass-cutting machines to three districts — Gome, North Gome, and Omukia — to help accelerate the restoration process in the area.
The Secretary of Omukia District, Lendinus Kogoya, personally led and coordinated the activity. He emphasized that the assistance provided has greatly contributed to speeding up the revitalization of villages that had long been abandoned by residents.
“We express our deepest gratitude to the Chairman of DPRK Puncak, Mr. Thomas Tabuni, for his support to us in Omukia District, including eleven grass-cutting machines, one drum of fuel, and one hundred kilograms of rice, which we have used for this clean-up activity,” he said.
The community effort, held from November 10 to 12, 2025, involved all residents of Omukia District. A total of 10 villages and 11 churches were cleaned, starting from Amingaru Village to Kunga Village.
This clean-up program also follows directives from the Chairman of DPRK Puncak and the Regent of Puncak, encouraging residents to return to their villages safely and comfortably after being displaced for several months.
