Mimika — The Amungme Kamoro Community Empowerment Foundation (YPMAK), in collaboration with PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), officially launched the Financial Literacy Program for its assisted micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Mile 23, Mimika. The soft opening took place at the kiosk of Amon Omaleng and was attended by YPMAK Chairperson Leonardus Tumuka, PTFI representative Ferdi Abdulah, BTN representative Didit Darmono, and local community members.
YPMAK Chairperson Leonardus Tumuka explained that the initiative is part of the community partnership fund supported by PTFI and developed with BTN and STIE Jembatan Bulan. “Several young Papuans have been specially trained to mentor these businesses,” he said.
Leonardus noted that each participating MSME had undergone financial literacy training before receiving kiosk assistance. “They were prepared and already had their own land. After verification and processing, once declared eligible, the convenience stores were built to completion,” he explained.
He also emphasized the importance of involving local educational institutions. “We have local educational institutions here, and we want to give them opportunities to take part in this program,” he said.
Leonardus added that the program responds to the community’s need for technology-driven economic growth. “The store has been installed with a centralized system, so transactions can be made via QRIS. People don’t need to bring cash; they can simply use their phones to scan,” he stated.
Meanwhile, BTN representative Didit Darmono expressed his appreciation to YPMAK. “We are now able to conduct the soft opening for this Financial Literacy Program; this is an extraordinary initiative,” he said. He stressed that the program’s success depends on strong cooperation. “We—BTN, YPMAK, STIE JB, and CV Amugsa—ask all program recipients to work together with us to ensure this program succeeds,” he added.
The event concluded with a symbolic handover of the kiosk key to Amon Omaleng, marking the official start of operations for the assisted MSME.
