Jayapura, Papua Highlands — The Indigenous People’s Council (Lembaga Masyarakat Adat/LMA) of Lanny Jaya Regency has expressed full support for the security forces in upholding the law and maintaining order in the Papua Highlands region.
Chairman of LMA Lanny Jaya, Tias Urnom Kogoya, in a statement released in Jayapura on Sunday (Nov 9), said that the customary institution continues to work hand in hand with security forces to ensure that peace and public order are preserved in the region.
“Maintaining security is not only the responsibility of one party, but a shared duty,” said Tias Urnom Kogoya.
He also urged local residents, especially members of the Lanny tribe in Lanny Jaya Regency, to continue safeguarding peace and not be provoked by parties that could trigger disturbances to public security.
Tias explained that the Papua Highlands, consisting of eight regencies, has diverse social and cultural characteristics. Therefore, strong collaboration among traditional leaders, local government, and law enforcement is essential to ensure community harmony and smooth development in the region.
Regarding the recent arrest of a member of the armed criminal group (KKB) by security forces, the LMA considered the action part of the lawful efforts to enforce justice and maintain security stability.
“We fully submit the case to the state’s legal mechanism and urge families and the community not to take any actions that could disrupt the ongoing legal process,” he emphasized.
The Lanny Jaya Indigenous Council hopes that all residents will continue to uphold peace and order so that the development programs in the Papua Highlands can proceed smoothly and contribute to improving the people’s welfare.
