Jayawijaya Community Leader Urges Residents to Stay United, Avoid Divisive Issues

Jayapura — A community leader from Jayawijaya District, Papua Highlands, Hengki Heselo, has called on all residents not to be influenced by issues that could trigger division within the community. The appeal was made as part of efforts to maintain public security and order ahead of certain commemorations often used by groups opposing the ideology of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

“We urge the people of Jayawijaya District not to be involved in activities that could cause security and public order disturbances in this region,” he said in a press statement received by Antara in Jayapura on Saturday.

Heselo emphasized that maintaining peace and stability in Jayawijaya is a shared responsibility among all citizens. He called on the public to remain united and not give space to provocateurs seeking to disrupt harmony in the central highlands of Papua.

“We hope the community remains alert to any provocations or invitations that could divide unity and disrupt the social and economic life of the people,” he said.

Furthermore, Heselo reminded residents not to participate in celebrations organized by groups that oppose Indonesia’s sovereignty, urging them instead to focus on preserving peace and security in the region.

“As the Head of Lantipo Village and a community leader, I will talk to the younger people who still hold ideologies contrary to NKRI so that they do not carry out activities that could cause unrest among the people of Jayawijaya on November 19,” he added.

He also stressed that residents should not be swayed by any invitations from certain parties that could trigger instability, but rather stay calm and refrain from joining activities conducted by groups claiming to represent Papua’s independence.

“Maintaining peace and stability in Jayawijaya is a shared responsibility for all citizens, and we hope the public remains vigilant against provocations or invitations that could divide unity and disrupt the social and economic life of the community,” he said.

Through this message, Heselo expressed hope that Jayawijaya residents would continue to strengthen solidarity and togetherness to sustain peace and support ongoing development in the region.
