Biak Numfor Regency Distributes Otsus Work Equipment Aid to Empower Indigenous Papuans

Biak Numfor — In an effort to strengthen the local economy, the Biak Numfor Regency Government has distributed work equipment assistance to Indigenous Papuans (OAP) through the 2025 Special Autonomy (Otsus) Fund program. The assistance targets community groups in several districts engaged in agriculture, mechanics, and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Biak Numfor Regent, Herry Ario Naap, stated that the program reflects the local government’s strong commitment to ensuring that Otsus funds are used effectively and bring direct benefits to the welfare of Indigenous Papuan communities.

“This program is designed to help our people gain proper work facilities so they can become economically independent. We want the Otsus fund to have a tangible impact that is truly felt by the community,” said Regent Herry in his statement on Friday (October 31).

In addition to providing tools and equipment, the local government has also prepared mentoring and training programs for recipients to ensure the aid is utilized optimally to develop their businesses.

Several beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the government’s attention, saying that this assistance provides new opportunities to improve their livelihoods and open new small-scale enterprises in their villages.

Through this initiative, the Biak Numfor Regency Government hopes the Otsus program will continue to serve as a practical instrument for promoting economic self-reliance, improving community welfare, and advancing development across Papua.
