Jayawijaya Police Promote Food Self-Sufficiency Through Corn Cultivation in Hubikosi District

Wamena, Central Highlands of Papua — The Jayawijaya Police continue to demonstrate their commitment to supporting government programs in the agricultural sector. One concrete step was carried out through a corn planting activity in Elagaima Village, Hubikosi District, as part of efforts to strengthen the national food self-sufficiency program.

The activity, conducted in the fourth quarter of 2025, involved police personnel working hand in hand with local farmers and community members. This collaborative initiative reflects the concern of the Jayawijaya Police for improving food security in highland areas that face geographical and logistical challenges.

Deputy Police Chief of Jayawijaya, Commissioner I Wayan Laba, stated that the initiative was not merely ceremonial but part of a continuous effort to strengthen the community’s economic resilience. “Through this program, we aim to help residents manage local resources independently while ensuring the stability of food supply in the region,” he said during the event.

In addition to land preparation and planting, the police also provided mentoring and technical support to local farmers to enhance their agricultural skills and productivity.

Officers guided them on planting methods, soil management, and sustainable farming practices to achieve better yields.

A local community leader from Elagaima expressed appreciation for the police’s direct involvement, noting that the program not only supports local agriculture but also strengthens social ties between law enforcement and residents. “We feel encouraged and grateful for this assistance. It motivates us to continue developing agriculture in our village,” he said.

The initiative exemplifies the synergy between the National Police, local government, and community members in maintaining social stability and promoting sustainable development across Papua’s highlands. With this collaboration, Jayawijaya is expected to progress toward greater food self-sufficiency and serve as a model for other districts in the region.
