Jayapura – In an effort to maintain environmental sustainability and support sustainable development in coastal areas, Bank Papua together with the Jayapura Mangrove House Community carried out a planting activity of 500 mangrove seedlings in Tobati Village, Jayapura City.
The activity is part of the Bank Papua Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program series which was officially launched on September 30, 2025. This action is a real step of Bank Papua in strengthening concern for the environment as well as supporting the development of a healthy coastal ecosystem in Papua.
Bank Papua Independent Commissioner, Victor Abraham Abaidata, explained that this activity is a form of Bank Papua’s commitment to sustainable environmental sustainability. “Mangrove planting in Tobati is one of the real forms of our social responsibility to maintain the balance of nature and support coastal communities,” he said.
Furthermore, Victor explained that mangrove planting activities are part of the four main CSR programs of Bank Papua that are carried out in Jayapura City. The program includes:
- Prevention of stunting in densely populated areas.
- Community-based waste processing in Hamadi.
- Training for UMKM actors to be more competitive.
- Mangrove planting in Tobati Village as a form of coastal preservation.
Victor added, the mangrove ecosystem has an important role in preventing beach abrasion, maintaining the quality of seawater, and becoming a habitat for various marine biota. “In addition to protecting the beach from erosion, mangroves also become a breeding ground for fish and crabs that have economic value for the local community,” he explained.
The greening action in Tobati was greeted enthusiastically by the community and local youth groups who participated in the activity. The synergy between regional financial institutions, environmental communities, and the community is expected to be the first step towards a green, clean, and sustainable Jayapura.
With this activity, Bank Papua emphasizes its commitment to continue to be present not only as a banking institution, but also as a sustainable development partner for Papua.
