Jayapura, Papua — In an effort to preserve and promote local art and culture, the Government of Jayapura Regency held a regional cultural performance at the Jayapura Regency Office Field on Saturday (October 5, 2025).
The event featured various artistic performances from cultural communities, schools, and art groups across several districts. Traditional dances, ethnic music, and exhibitions of local handicrafts became the main attractions, drawing hundreds of enthusiastic spectators.
Head of the Jayapura Regency Culture and Tourism Office, Maria Y. Wanimbo, stated that the activity is part of the local government’s continuous program to nurture and support regional arts.
“We want to provide a platform for local artists to showcase their talents while promoting the cultural values of our people,” said Maria.
Meanwhile, Jayapura Regent Mathius Awoitauw emphasized that such events play an important role in maintaining cultural identity amid the rapid pace of globalization.
“Through cultural performances, we strengthen our sense of unity and instill pride in our traditional heritage,” he remarked.
The public showed great enthusiasm throughout the event, enjoying every performance presented. Beyond entertainment, the cultural showcase also served as a form of education and inspiration for younger generations to appreciate and preserve their cultural roots.
With this initiative, the Jayapura Regency Government reaffirms its commitment to developing local art and culture as a source of pride and a potential cultural attraction at the national level.
