Yahukimo – Security personnel from the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force, together with the Yahukimo Police Intelligence Unit, responded swiftly to a report of an assault and attempted murder targeting a bridge construction worker on Jalan Barak Seradala KM 2, Yahukimo Regency, Thursday (September 18, 2025).
The victim was identified as Muhammad Asdar (40), a private worker residing in the Paradiso Complex.
Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation, Brig. Gen. Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., explained that the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. local time when the victim and his colleagues were transporting stones for a gabion project.
“Suddenly, a group of unidentified individuals arrived. One of the perpetrators, who had dreadlocks, swung a machete toward the victim’s head, causing a laceration,” said Brig. Gen. Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani.
Meanwhile, Deputy Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation, Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., revealed that the victim was not only attacked with sharp weapons but also beaten by a mob.
“The victim was assaulted by about 15 people and pelted with stones. His truck was also damaged. In a life-threatening situation, the victim managed to save himself by locking the vehicle and then reporting to Yahukimo Police,” explained Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga.
In addition to sustaining a head wound from the machete attack, the victim also suffered psychological trauma from the sudden assault. Joint security forces immediately arrived at the scene to conduct a crime scene investigation, secure evidence, and take witness statements.
Police are now conducting an intensive investigation to identify the perpetrators involved in the mob attack. Authorities also ensured that infrastructure development projects in the area will continue with enhanced security measures to guarantee the safety of workers.
As of now, the victim is receiving medical treatment and his condition is gradually stabilizing. Law enforcement officials urge the public to remain calm and promptly report any information regarding the perpetrators’ whereabouts so that this case can be resolved swiftly.
