Jayapura – Ahead of the Constitutional Court’s (MK) ruling on the results of Papua’s gubernatorial election for the 2025–2030 period, scheduled for September 17, 2025, Papuan intellectual Otniel Deda has called on all citizens to wholeheartedly accept the decision.
According to Otniel, whichever candidate pair is ultimately declared as Governor and Deputy Governor represents the will of the Papuan people. He stressed the importance of upholding the law and respecting the Constitutional Court as the highest authority with the final say on election disputes.
“Let us safeguard peace in Papua. Do not be easily provoked, do not fall into division, and avoid any acts of violence in responding to the Constitutional Court’s ruling,” Otniel said on Tuesday (Sept. 16).
He also urged candidates, campaign teams, and supporting political parties to set an example by accepting the Court’s decision. Furthermore, Otniel expressed hope that political elites would guide their supporters to remain calm and not be swayed by negative narratives.
“The governor who is elected will serve as a leader for all Papuans. With a definitive governor in place, development can move forward for the progress of Papua’s people,” he emphasized.
