Jayapura, Papua – Reverend Nico Maury of the Kingmi Church Synod in Jayapura has called on Papuans to safeguard national unity following the announcement of the province’s gubernatorial election results. As a church leader, he urged congregations to remain grateful and uphold the values of truth reflected in the democratic process.
“We invite all Papuans, especially church members, to continue strengthening our unity as one nation. Today we can already feel a safe and peaceful atmosphere because the election has been carried out properly,” Rev. Maury said.
He stressed that whoever is elected to lead Papua should be accepted as part of God’s will, reminding people not to be provoked and instead focus on building collective life.
“Whatever the outcome, it is God’s choice. Let us be grateful, take the positives, and make them the foundation to strengthen our identity as a nation. We are Indonesians and must not be divided by dishonorable issues,” he emphasized.
Rev. Maury also underlined the importance of setting an example for the next generation by preserving unity. According to him, the greatest legacy is a peaceful and resilient Papua within the Republic of Indonesia.
“We must show our children that we are capable of maintaining unity and building Papua as part of the NKRI, from Sabang to Merauke. That is what we must uphold together,” he concluded.
