Jayapura – The Papua Provincial Election Commission (KPU) has officially announced the results of the 2024 Papua gubernatorial election re-vote (PSU). In its plenary session, the KPU declared candidate pair No. 02, Mathius D. Fakhiri and Aryoko Rumaropen (MARI-YO), as the winners. The re-vote was conducted following a Constitutional Court ruling that ordered new ballots in several regions.
However, the outcome has not been fully accepted by the supporters of candidate pair No. 01, Benhur Tomi Mano and Constan Karma (BTM-CK). Their representatives refused to sign the official minutes, arguing that the process was illegitimate.
Responding to the tension, Dr. Ir. Alberth Merauje, A.Md.Tek., S.T., M.T., IPM—member of Papua’s Regional House of Representatives (DPR), intellectual, church figure, and community leader—called on all sides to respect the KPU’s decision and act with maturity in democracy.
“It would be best if both candidates could stand together, shake hands, and say: ‘Thank you, Candidate No. 02, who will soon be inaugurated. We will stand behind you in support.’ That would be the spirit of true statesmanship. That is the essence of Pancasila,” Alberth said firmly.
He emphasized that embodying Pancasila means prioritizing the interests of the people over personal or group agendas. According to him, the re-vote held on August 6, 2025, across eight regencies and one city was conducted according to regulations, despite natural democratic challenges.
“Both No. 01 and No. 02 have shortcomings—we are human, not angels. If there are alleged violations, then follow the legal process. This is a state of law,” Alberth stressed.
He further urged all parties to now focus on awaiting the official inauguration of the elected governor so that governance and development in Papua can continue without delay.
“No more repeat elections. The budget is not meant to be wasted on endless re-votes. Once the KPU has announced the results, let’s shake hands, reconcile, and work together to build Papua. That is true maturity, that is the real Pancasila spirit—without envy, hatred, or the urge to bring each other down,” he concluded.
Based on the final tally from nine districts and cities, the MARI-YO pair secured 259,817 votes (50.4 percent), while BTM-CK received 255,683 votes (49.6 percent).
