Jayapura — Following the completion of the revote (PSU) in several regions of Papua, Chairman of the Port Numbay Indigenous Peoples’ Institution (LMA), George Awi, urged the public to maintain peace and respect the vote counting process currently being carried out. (Friday, August 8, 2025)
Speaking to reporters, Awi called on all layers of society to give space to the General Elections Commission (KPU) and help preserve peace after the revote.
“The revote went smoothly, but what’s most important now is that we maintain peace together and wait for the KPU to complete the vote counting process,” said the Port Numbay LMA Chairman.
He went on to urge community leaders—from youth groups, religious communities, and indigenous organizations—to continue reminding one another not to be swayed by provocative issues currently circulating. Awi stressed that people must be patient and wait for the official results from the KPU, as the legitimate authority overseeing the regional election.
“Let’s stay patient and respect the democratic process as it unfolds, while maintaining harmony among citizens. Papua must continue to be a role model for other regions in holding a peaceful and dignified revote,” he added.
Awi also reminded the public that while the election results may spark differing opinions, everyone should honor the outcome and respond with wisdom and maturity.
