Jayapura, August 8, 2025 — A former Acting Mayor and prominent Papuan intellectual has called on the public to remain calm and united following the re-vote (PSU) for the Papua gubernatorial election held on August 6.
He addressed concerns arising in the aftermath of the vote, where both gubernatorial camps have declared victory based on early reports from polling stations and independent surveys. According to him, these claims are premature and not grounded in official results.
“The public must stay calm and avoid being provoked by unverified information. We need to respect the vote-counting process until the official results are announced through the plenary session,” he stated.
He emphasized that both candidate pairs — BTM–CK and MDF–Mariyo — are among Papua’s finest sons, and urged everyone to honor the outcome once it is officially declared by the election commission (KPU).
“Let’s avoid hatred, conflict, or any actions that may damage the bonds of brotherhood — whether in person or through social media. Political differences must not divide us,” he added.
He also reminded the public that Papua, as a province, bears a moral responsibility to set an example for the newly established surrounding provinces in upholding peace and democratic values.
“Papua must remain safe and stable. This is our shared responsibility. God bless us all,” he concluded.
