Malang, Indonesia – A total of 105 students from Papua have successfully passed the selection process for Indonesia’s prestigious state universities (PTN) for the 2025 academic year through the National Selection for State Universities (SNBP) and the National Computer-Based Test (SNBT). This achievement has garnered high praise from the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa.
Governor Khofifah emphasized that this accomplishment reflects the positive impact of the ADEM (Affirmative Education Program) on enhancing the quality of human resources in Papua. She highlighted that the program has helped cultivate a new generation of Papuan youth who are now ready to compete on both national and international stages.
“I am extremely proud and deeply appreciative of the remarkable achievements of these students from Papua. The ADEM program has provided them with the opportunity to access high-quality higher education,” Governor Khofifah stated on Friday, July 11, 2025, during the welcoming ceremony for the 105 new ADEM students from Papua in Malang.
The students, who come from various regions in Papua, will continue their education at 36 senior high schools (SMA) and vocational schools (SMK) across East Java. This year, ADEM scholarship recipients come from six provinces in Papua, with the largest number of students coming from Wamena (40 students), followed by Sorong (25 students), Sentani (17 students), Nabire (19 students), Manokwari (13 students), Merauke (13 students), and Timika (11 students).
Governor Khofifah stressed that the government is fully committed to enhancing the quality of education in Papua. The ADEM program is a tangible example of this commitment, aiming to create high-quality human resources and equal opportunities for all children across Indonesia, including those in Papua.
“I will always support you. During your studies in East Java, I am like a mother to you. Use education as a gateway to success,” she said.
Governor Khofifah hopes that these students will continue to grow, pursue their studies with discipline, and eventually become leaders who can contribute to the development of their home regions. Education remains the key to unlocking success for Papua’s future generations.
