The Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, is scheduled to swear in Agus Fatoni as the Acting Governor of Papua today. The inauguration ceremony will take place in Building A at the Ministry of Home Affairs’ office on Monday, July 7, 2025. Agus Fatoni will succeed Major General (Ret.) Ramses Aburaksa Limbong, who has been serving since August 2024.
The appointment of Fatoni as the Acting Governor of Papua has gone through extensive evaluation processes by the government. The selection was based on considerations of integrity, competence, and extensive experience in bureaucracy at both national and regional levels. Currently, Fatoni holds the position of Director General of Regional Financial Development at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Throughout his bureaucratic career, Agus Fatoni is known as an official trusted to hold strategic positions in several provinces. He has been entrusted with acting as Governor in North Sulawesi, South Sumatra, and North Sumatra. These achievements make Fatoni the first official to serve as Acting Governor in four different provinces.
During his tenure as Acting Governor, Fatoni demonstrated commendable performance. While serving as Acting Governor of North Sumatra, he ranked among the top three best Acting Governors in Indonesia according to the Ministry of Home Affairs. This award further solidifies his reputation as a high-quality bureaucrat.
Moreover, Fatoni received recognition from the Minister of Home Affairs as the Best Acting Governor with the best performance, based on assessments by Tempo Media Group. He was awarded as the Best Acting Governor in two categories: Overall Performance and Best Economic Performance in Regional Governance, during an event held on August 30, 2024.
In addition to his experience and achievements, Fatoni has a long track record in fiscal policy management and regional autonomy. He has previously served as the Head of the Revenue Sharing Sub-Directorate at the Directorate General of Regional Finance and held positions such as Head of the Special Autonomy Sections for Papua, West Papua, and the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
