Jakarta – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has reaffirmed his commitment to prioritize infrastructure development in four newly established provinces in Papua. These new autonomous regions (DOB) include Central Papua, Highland Papua, South Papua, and Southwest Papua.
This commitment was conveyed by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) following a limited cabinet meeting with the President at the State Palace recently.
“The President has issued firm instructions to accelerate infrastructure development in these four new provinces, particularly those related to public services and government administration,” AHY told reporters.
The government’s primary focus includes the construction of administrative facilities such as governors’ offices, provincial parliaments (DPRD), and the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP). In addition, supporting infrastructure such as housing for civil servants (ASN) will also be developed.
Enhancing land, sea, and air transportation connectivity is another key priority, aimed at opening up access and boosting local economic growth in the region.
However, AHY acknowledged that there are challenges on the ground—chief among them is the availability of land, which remains under the authority of regional governments. Without adequate land allocation, physical construction cannot proceed.
President Prabowo hopes that this initiative will lay the foundation for effective governance in the newly formed regions and promote more equitable development and welfare for the people of Papua.
“Through this accelerated development effort, we want the Papuan people to soon experience the tangible benefits of regional expansion—better access to public services, adequate infrastructure, and a revitalized local economy,” AHY concluded.
