Timika — Mimika Regent Johannes Rettob extended his Eid al-Adha greetings to all Muslims in Mimika and expressed his appreciation for the qurban (sacrificial animal) slaughter conducted at LDII Miftahul Huda Mosque on Monday (June 17, 2025).
“First of all, I wish a blessed Eid al-Adha to all Muslims in Mimika. On behalf of the government, myself, and the community, I also ask for forgiveness on this day of sacrifice,” said Regent Rettob during his visit to oversee the slaughter process at the mosque.
During the visit, Regent JR—his popular nickname—was accompanied by the Chairman of PHBI Mimika, Ustaz Joko Prianto, and the Head of the Livestock and Animal Health Service (Disnakeswan), Drh. Sabelina Fitriani. They directly observed the slaughter of 19 cows and 4 goats by the qurban committee. All animals had been declared healthy by the veterinary service.
“I appreciate LDII for carrying out the slaughter in accordance with animal welfare principles. That means the animals were not stressed, did not witness other animals being slaughtered, and the process—including waste management—was handled in an orderly manner,” said Regent JR.
He also noted improvements in this year’s qurban implementation compared to the previous year. According to him, the committee had evaluated several aspects and made necessary enhancements.
“From my visit last year, some things were reviewed and have now been improved by the committee. This shows progress in the quality of execution,” he added.
Regent Rettob expressed hope that other mosques in Mimika would follow LDII Miftahul Huda Mosque’s example in implementing environmentally friendly qurban practices.
“We may be slaughtering animals, but we must still take care of the environment. Most importantly, do not slaughter animals that are already in a weakened condition. The process must be proper and considerate of the animals’ comfort,” he emphasized.
