Jayapura, Papua — Pastor Dr. Yones Wenda, a prominent religious leader in Papua, has strongly condemned the criminal actions carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) against teachers and healthcare workers in Anggruk District, Yahukimo Regency.
He made this statement on Monday, March 24, 2025, in Jayapura, in response to the attack on contract teachers and healthcare workers by KKB in Anggruk District on Friday, March 21, 2025.
“As a religious leader in the field of security, I deeply regret the attack on contract teachers. This is an unacceptable act,” said Pastor Yones Wenda.
He emphasized that the presence of teachers and healthcare workers in Papua is intended to educate and nurture children to become future leaders in their region while also ensuring the community’s health.
“Teachers come not to harm or kill our children. They come with noble intentions, as do the healthcare workers,” he added.
Pastor Yones also reminded the people of Papua not to deliberately create conflict in the region. He pointed out that acts of violence only harm innocent people who end up becoming victims due to the actions of certain individuals.
“Humans were created in the image and likeness of God, as written in Genesis 1:6-8. God does not approve of such acts of violence.
The Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:13-15 clearly state, ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, and you shall not steal.’ Those who commit such acts will not enter heaven, and God is angry with them. Therefore, we, as the people of Papua, must be aware and repent,” he stressed.
Pastor Yones also urged security forces, including the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri), to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators according to the applicable legal process.
“I call on all the people of Papua to support public security and order (Kamtibmas) so that Papua remains safe and under control,” he concluded.
