Religious leaders in Papua appealed to all people to continue to maintain public security and order (kamtibmas) in order to create a harmonious and peaceful life in Bumi Cenderawasih. This appeal was conveyed as a response to the importance of a sense of togetherness in overcoming various challenges in the region.
One of the Papuan religious figures, namely Markus Nome, said that peace is the main foundation for Papua’s progress. He invites people from various backgrounds not to be easily provoked by divisive issues, and prioritizes dialogue in solving every problem.
“Let’s keep security together. Each of us has a responsibility to ensure that Papua remains peaceful. Do not let differences be an excuse for conflict, but make it a force to unite,” he said.
He also asked all elements of the community, including youth and traditional figures, to support security forces such as Polri and TNI in maintaining the situation of kamtibmas in their respective areas. According to him, cooperation between the community and security forces is very important to prevent conflicts and other security disturbances.
In addition, religious figures also urge the public to report all suspicious matters to the authorities and avoid self-judgment. By promoting a sense of togetherness and mutual respect, it is hoped that Papua can become a safe, peaceful, and tolerant area.
