Papua – Brigadier General Faizal Rahmadani, Commander of the Peace Cartenz Task Force, revealed that 27 members of Armed Criminal Groups (KKB) were neutralized throughout 2024. The Peace Cartenz Task Force also seized hundreds of weapons and communication devices used by the groups.
The confiscated items include 788 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, 227 sharp weapons, 85 communication devices, and numerous firearms. “We successfully took control of 35 KKB bases located in Papua Highlands and Central Papua,” Brigadier General Faizal stated in Jayapura on Wednesday (January 1, 2025).
The task force recorded 98 security disturbance reports attributed to KKB during the year. Additionally, 15 cases have been forwarded to the prosecution for further legal proceedings.
One of the major achievements of the Peace Cartenz Task Force in 2024 was the safe release of Susi Air pilot Captain Philips Mark Marhtens, who had been held hostage by KKB.
“Thanks to the support and involvement of all parties, we managed to secure the release of Captain Philips, a New Zealand national, unharmed,” Faizal added.
The task force’s jurisdiction includes nine districts across three provinces: Papua, Papua Highlands, and Central Papua.
