Jayapura – A joint operation by the Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police (Polri) successfully evacuated the body of a suspected member of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB), identified as TT. TT was allegedly involved in the shooting of Bripda Choisu Yason Norman Rumabar on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, in Lungguineri Village, Pagaleme District, Puncak Jaya Regency.
Papua Regional Police spokesperson, Kombes Pol. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, S.H., S.I.K., M.Kom., confirmed the evacuation when contacted by reporters.
According to Kombes Benny, on Wednesday, December 11, at approximately 2:00 PM local time, personnel from Kulirik Post informed the Puncak Jaya Police that the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) in Puncak Jaya had received information from locals about a body found near Kali Ulu.
“Upon receiving the report, joint personnel from the Puncak Jaya Police, the Gakkum Task Force, the Nanggala Task Force, and the Tactical Task Force went to Kulirik Post to confirm the information,” said Benny.
Further inspection confirmed that the body belonged to one of the suspects in the shooting of Bripda Choisu.
“The Puncak Jaya Police have since handed the body over to the family, represented by the Muara District Head,” he added.
Separately, the Puncak Jaya Police Chief, AKBP Kuswara, S.H., S.I.K., M.H., through the Intelligence Unit Head, Yusup Sampebua Toding, S.H., clarified the circumstances surrounding the handover.
“The deceased was one of the perpetrators involved in the shooting of Bripda Choisu Yason Norman Rumabar on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, in Lungguineri Village, Pagaleme District, Puncak Jaya,” said Yusup.
“As law enforcement, we would never open fire on someone unless they had committed a violation,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Muara District Head, Yoses Kogoya, corroborated the security forces’ actions. “If the security forces chased the suspect from Kota Baru to Kali Ulu and carried out the shooting, then this body indeed belongs to a KKB member who had been involved in the previous shooting,” Kogoya concluded.
