Jayapura – The Puncak Regional Police are currently addressing an armed attack allegedly carried out by an Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in three different locations.
The spokesperson for the Papua Police, Senior Commissioner Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, S.H., S.I.K., M.Kom., confirmed the incident when contacted.
According to Ignatius Benny, the attack occurred on Tuesday (10/12/2024) at approximately 7:30 PM local time. Shots were fired from three separate locations: the premises of SMAN 1 Sinak (a senior high school), SDN 1 Sinak (an elementary school), and behind a residential area near the Sinak Police Station.
“Joint security personnel immediately responded to the gunfire, and drone surveillance identified 10 KKB members gathered above the SMAN 1 Sinak campus,” Benny stated on Wednesday evening (11/12/2024).
The incident resulted in no casualties among security forces or civilians.
Separately, Puncak Police Chief Commissioner I Nyoman Punia emphasized that the situation in Puncak remains under control but fragile. Security forces are on high alert to prevent further attacks.
“This case is being handled by the Puncak Police, and the motive behind the attack is still under investigation,” Punia concluded.
