KKB Papua carries out attacks, burns down the Sinak N 1 High School building and fires a series of shots

Timika – The Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Papua launched another terror attack by setting fire to the SMA N 1 Sinak building, Puncak Regency, on Wednesday night (9/10/24) at around 19.20 WIT. The incident was accompanied by a series of gunshots which added to tension at the location.

Puncak Police Chief, Commissioner I Nyoman Punia, confirmed that when the arson incident occurred, his party monitored the whereabouts of KKB members led by Kalenak Murib CS. “When the fire grew, the attack was still accompanied by gunfire by the KKB led by Kalenak Murib CS,” said the Police Chief in his statement on Thursday (10/10/24).

According to the Police Chief, when the fire started to spread to several other buildings in the school, Sinak Police personnel immediately took alert action (Steling) to defend their respective positions. Not long after that, the fire began to subside and the sound of gunfire could no longer be heard.

“Sinak Police personnel remain on alert in their respective positions to anticipate further attacks,” added the Police Chief.

Furthermore, the Police Chief explained that the burning of the SMA N 1 Sinak building was triggered by a misunderstanding involving the KKB. Until now, the situation in the Sinak area is still in alert status, and security forces continue to be on guard to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further incidents from occurring.

This incident adds to the long list of terror acts carried out by the KKB in the Papua region, which often targets public facilities and causes instability in the region. Authorities are now continuing efforts to address security threats and restore order in the affected areas.
