Jayapura- The Regional Head Election which will be held on November 27 2024 is a crucial moment for the journey of democracy in Indonesia. Every citizen who has the right to vote is expected to participate actively, to ensure that leaders are elected who truly represent the aspirations of the community. Unfortunately, attempts to abstain or not exercise the right to vote are still a challenge that needs to be watched out for.
In Jayapura City, Papua. The National Unity and Politics Agency (Kesbangpol) has appealed to all citizens not to abstain. Head of Kesbangpol Jayapura City. Raymondus Mote emphasized the importance of citizen participation in the Pilkada through various outreach efforts.
“This socialization involves various community associations and organizations, with the hope that information related to the Pilkada can be conveyed widely to the family level,” he said.
He also said that even though outreach efforts had been made, the challenge of preventing abstention remained. Provocations for abstention often arise from various parties who are dissatisfied with existing candidates or who have a certain agenda.
“We need to be wary of this kind of provocation because it can damage the democratic process and reduce the legitimacy of elected leaders,” said Raymondus Mote.
Let us work together to maintain the smooth running of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections by actively participating and rejecting all forms of abstention provocation. The future of the region is in our hands, and our participation in the Pilkada is the key to realizing a better future.
