Jayapura – Kapolda Papua Inspector General Mathius Fahiri told the acting Regent of Nduga to help free Susi Air pilot Philips Mark Mehrtens who was held hostage by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya.
Edison Gwijangge, the newly installed acting Regent of Nduga, is helping to maintain active communication with the KKB Papua Egianus Kogoya.
“The newly appointed Nduga Regent official is expected to be able to actively build communication so that the Egianus group will no longer demand things that are given by the state,” he said, Tuesday (6/27/2023).
The Provincial Government of Papua Mountains has also encouraged officials from the Regent of Nduga to help release Susi Air pilot Philips Mark Mehrtens, a New Zealand national.
Admittedly, currently various approaches have been made either through community leaders, religious leaders and Egianus’ own family.
“Hopefully with the various steps taken Egianus will change his attitude so he wants to hand over the hostages to the officers,” he hoped.
Inspector General of Police Fakhiri admitted that his party continues to communicate with various parties so that there is a good way out to be able to sit together to settle their demands and hopes.
“We want him (Egianus) to hand over Philips hostage who has been held captive since February 7 in Paro, so that the TNI-Polri will try their best to deal with this problem,” said Kapolda Inspector General Pol Fakhiri.
Previously the KKB leader Egianus Kogoya on social media had threatened to shoot his hostage Philips Mark Methrtens which would be carried out in July 2023.
