Jayapura – The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Indonesia, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), has called for the continued maintenance of security stability in the Papua region to ensure that infrastructure development can proceed safely and provide benefits to the community.
According to AHY, the security situation has become a point of concern for the government following a number of armed violent incidents targeting civilians in the Highland Papua region.
“Security guarantees and a sense of safety are basic needs for the public, as well as crucial factors in supporting development,” he stated in Jayapura on Saturday.
He explained that synergy and collaboration among all ministries and agencies—including the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and local governments—are essential to providing such security guarantees.
Meanwhile, the Regent of Intan Jaya, Central Papua, Aner Maisini, stated that the local government remains committed to supporting infrastructure development in the region, despite ongoing security challenges.
He explained that the Intan Jaya Regency Government, in coordination with the TNI, the National Police, community leaders, traditional leaders, and religious figures, has established a commitment to oversee the implementation of development projects, including those under the Presidential Instruction on Regional Roads.
“The local government has also formed a special team to monitor development in the field while fostering communication with various segments of society,” he said.
He added that he hopes the support from the central government, security forces, and all elements of society will help foster a conducive environment, ensuring that infrastructure development in Papua can continue in a sustainable manner.
