NABIRE, CENTRAL PAPUA – The Central Papua Provincial Government continues to promote community economic empowerment by providing young people with the resources needed to establish productive businesses. One such initiative is the distribution of 34 motorcycles to Indigenous Papuan (OAP) youth in Puncak Jaya Regency to create business opportunities and strengthen economic independence.
Central Papua Deputy Governor Deinas Geley said the motorcycle assistance was intended to support young people who are motivated to work and develop productive businesses. With access to transportation, recipients are expected to take advantage of available economic opportunities in their respective communities.
According to Deinas, the motorcycles can be used for various business activities, including motorcycle taxi services, passenger transportation, and other mobility-related economic ventures. To ensure that the assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries, recipients are required to hold an Indonesian identity card (KTP) and family card (KK) showing their residence in Puncak Jaya Regency.
He explained that the motorcycles could also support agricultural activities and the distribution of local farmers’ produce, rather than being used solely for passenger transportation. For example, recipients could purchase agricultural products directly from local farmers and transport them to cooperatives for marketing and distribution.
This approach is expected to create additional income opportunities for young people while helping farmers expand their access to markets. As a result, the motorcycle assistance could provide broader benefits for economic activities throughout Puncak Jaya Regency.
Deinas emphasized that the success of the assistance program depends not only on the availability of facilities but also on the recipients’ ability to manage and develop their businesses consistently. Creativity, innovation, and a strong work ethic are therefore essential to ensuring that the motorcycles generate sustainable economic value over the long term.
“Young people who receive motorcycle assistance must be creative and innovative in developing the local economy,” Deinas said in a telephone interview from Nabire on Monday.
He expressed hope that recipients would use the assistance responsibly and treat the motorcycles as assets to help establish independent businesses. In addition to increasing their personal income, successful businesses are expected to stimulate the local economy and strengthen commercial activities within the community. Through this program, the Central Papua Provincial Government hopes to encourage more Indigenous Papuan youth in Puncak Jaya to contribute to regional development through productive economic activities. By harnessing local potential, including transportation services and agricultural marketing, the initiative is expected to create sustainable business opportunities and improve community welfare
