Calling for Comprehensive Handling of Papua, Dave Laksono: Security-Only Approach Won’t Solve the Problem

Jakarta – Dave Laksono emphasized that the handling of armed criminal groups (KKB) in Papua must be firm and measured, accompanied by law enforcement and the provision of public services.

Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) highlighted the security dynamics in the Papua region, which require the formulation of comprehensive and sustainable solutions.

Dave Laksono, Deputy Chairman of Commission I, underscored the vital role the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) plays in protecting citizens from the threats posed by armed groups. However, he cautioned that a security-focused approach alone would never be sufficient to resolve the root causes of the issues in Papua.

“The handling of armed groups must be firm and measured, yet it must proceed alongside law enforcement, development, public services, and a social approach,” Dave stated.

He urged for the active involvement of local governments to accelerate economic development and ensure the fulfillment of the basic rights of the Papuan people.
