Jayapura – PT Freeport Indonesia, together with Cenderawasih University (UNCEN), continues to strengthen its collaboration in developing inclusive education in Papua through the construction of modern educational facilities and human resource capacity building programs.
This collaboration is realized through the construction of the UNCEN Science and Partnership Center Building, which is expected to become a center for learning, research, and innovation based on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The presence of this facility is part of Freeport’s commitment to supporting educational advancement and expanding equitable access to learning for Papua’s young generation.
PT Freeport Indonesia President Director, Tony Wenas, emphasized that strengthening education and research is a key foundation for driving progress in Papua. He stated that the facilities built not only support the learning process but also prepare the next generation of Papuans to have global competencies and be able to compete internationally.
In addition to infrastructure development, the collaboration between Freeport and UNCEN also includes local talent development programs, including scholarships and improving the quality of teaching staff. Hundreds of UNCEN alumni have been employed at Freeport as part of this collaboration.
Meanwhile, the Rector of Cenderawasih University, Oscar O. Wambrauw, stated that the Science and Partnership Center Building will be a driving force for strengthening inclusive education in Papua. This facility will also serve as a strategic collaboration space between academia and industry to address various educational challenges in the region.
The building is designed as a modern, environmentally friendly learning facility, equipped with digital classrooms, an auditorium, and renewable energy technology. Furthermore, this facility supports more inclusive access to learning, including for students from diverse backgrounds and regions in Papua.
Through this collaboration, PT Freeport Indonesia and Cenderawasih University hope to create a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable education ecosystem, while simultaneously encouraging the development of a superior and globally competitive generation of Papuans.
