Jayapura — With unwavering spirit and strong determination, the Indonesian National Police’s Carstensz Peace Task Force successfully evacuated 11 refugees from Korowai Batu Airport, Bovendigoel Regency, South Papua, on Thursday (February 12, 2026).
This successful evacuation is a testament to the extraordinary efforts of Indonesian National Police personnel in facing the challenges of difficult terrain and unpredictable weather. With full coordination and preparedness, two airport employees were also successfully transported along with the refugees, all of whom were extremely vulnerable and trapped in uncertainty. After successfully evacuating 11 people from Korowai Batu Airport, the Cartenz Peace Task Force continued their mission by relocating nine other evacuees trapped in Yaniruma District. With great effort and resilience, the nine evacuees were transferred to Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, using a Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) aircraft. The evacuation, scheduled for 1:51 PM WIT, proceeded smoothly. All evacuees successfully boarded the aircraft, which was ready to depart for a safer location.
Thanks to the highly coordinated efforts and hard work of personnel in the field, all evacuees are now in a safer location, far from the threats that threaten them. This success proves that with a spirit of togetherness and cooperation between agencies, challenging situations such as this can be successfully overcome.
Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., Head of the Carstensz Peace Operation, expressed his pride and gratitude for the hard work of all personnel involved.
