PUNCAK \u2013 The Damai Cartenz-2026 Police Task Force, together with the Puncak Police, is investigating a serious assault involving the stabbing of a civil servant identified by the initials MM (44), allegedly carried out by unidentified individuals. The incident occurred in front of Mandiri Utama Workshop, Kago Market Complex, Ulumuni Village, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency, Central Papua, on Sunday (November 1, 2026), at approximately 4:00 p.m. local time (WIT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident occurred while the victim was sitting on his motorcycle. Suddenly, he was allegedly attacked from behind with a sharp weapon, believed to be a knife, which was thrust into his neck and penetrated through to the front. After carrying out the attack, the perpetrators fled toward Ulumuni Village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based on preliminary investigations, five individuals are suspected of being involved in the incident. Three allegedly acted as lookouts, monitoring the surrounding situation, while the other two carried out the stabbing. The identities of the perpetrators are still under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Head of the Public Relations Task Force of Damai Cartenz-2026 Operation, Senior Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., told the media on Monday (November 2) that shortly after the incident, the victim shouted for help, prompting local residents to gather at the scene. The victim was subsequently taken to Ilaga Regional General Hospital (RSUD Ilaga) for medical treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe victim sustained a stab wound to the neck after being attacked from behind. He is currently conscious, while the knife believed to have been used in the attack remains lodged in his body,\u201d the Head of the Public Relations Task Force explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Due to limited medical facilities at Ilaga Regional General Hospital, the victim was referred to Timika Regional General Hospital on Monday morning (November 2, 2026), by aircraft under police escort for further medical treatment. The medical team also planned to install an immobilization splint to minimize movement that could potentially worsen the injury. The victim is subsequently scheduled to be referred to Makassar by aircraft for further medical care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the incident, the Damai Cartenz-2026 Police Task Force, together with the Puncak Police, conducted a search of the surrounding area, gathered witness statements, and secured evidence found at the crime scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Head of the Public Relations Task Force explained that the evidence documented in connection with the case included one navy-blue jacket, one pair of navy-blue jeans, and one black shirt belonging to the victim. In addition, a wooden-handled knife, approximately 40 centimeters in length, believed to have been used in the stabbing, was identified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The knife remains lodged in the victim’s body and could not yet be removed or secured pending medical intervention. Meanwhile, the victim’s personal belongings have been documented to support the ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe will continue our investigative efforts to identify the perpetrators and establish who is responsible for this incident,\u201d the Head of the Public Relations Task Force stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regarding the suspected motive, the Head of the Damai Cartenz-2026 Public Relations Task Force said investigators are still conducting further inquiries. Based on preliminary information, the stabbing is suspected to be linked to an armed criminal group (KKB) and may have been an act of revenge following the arrest of one of the group’s members who had previously been listed as a wanted person (DPO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Head of the Damai Cartenz-2026 Public Relations Task Force also stated that authorities are monitoring the circulation of several videos depicting violent incidents on social media. Based on monitoring and profiling activities, the videos uploaded by influencer Sebi Sambom were identified as old footage, documenting incidents from April 2026 and September 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, the recirculation of old footage could potentially create public concern and shape perceptions that do not reflect the actual security situation in Papua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are monitoring the circulation of videos depicting violent incidents which, based on our monitoring and profiling, have been identified as old footage. We urge the public not to easily believe or be provoked by hoaxes or information that does not reflect the facts,\u201d the Head of the Public Relations Task Force stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Head of the Damai Cartenz-2026 Operation, Inspector General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., emphasized that the case would be handled based on established facts and available evidence, including further investigation into any suspected involvement of particular individuals or groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any suspected links to particular groups will also be examined based on witness statements and legally admissible evidence. As a preventive measure, the Damai Cartenz-2026 Police Task Force, together with the Puncak Police, continues to strengthen security vigilance and monitoring activities throughout the Ilaga area. Coordination with local communities and relevant stakeholders is also being carried out to support the investigation and anticipate potential security disturbances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
