NABIRE, CENTRAL PAPUA \u2013 Nabire Regency is being developed as one of the key cocoa production centers in Central Papua. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture through the provision of three million cocoa seedlings, aimed at strengthening the plantation sector while improving the local economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head of the Central Papua Provincial Agriculture and Livestock Office, drh. Rafael Heri Nugroho, said the cocoa seedlings provided through the Ministry of Agriculture’s Directorate General of Plantations are currently undergoing the nursery stage before being distributed to farmer groups across Nabire Regency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe three million cocoa plants are currently still in the nursery stage. We hope they can be distributed to cocoa farmer groups in Nabire Regency by the end of this year,\u201d he said in Nabire on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The nursery process is centered in the Samabusa area of Nabire. The millions of seedlings are being prepared in stages, following the delivery of seeds from the Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Institute (Puslitkoka), to meet the needs of the planned cocoa plantation development in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In implementing the program, the Central Papua Provincial Government will work closely with the Nabire Regency Government to ensure that the distribution and planting processes proceed according to plan. Prospective beneficiary farmers and planting locations (CPCL) have also been proposed by the Nabire Regency Agriculture and Plantation Office through the provincial government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The proposals will subsequently undergo a verification process in collaboration with the Agricultural Modernization Implementation Center (BRMP) to ensure the readiness of farmer groups and the designated locations for cocoa cultivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rafael expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Agriculture for its support in developing plantation commodities in Central Papua. He emphasized that collaboration between the central, provincial, and regency governments is essential to ensuring the success of the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are very grateful for and supportive of the initiative introduced by the Ministry of Agriculture. Together, we are working in collaboration with the Nabire Regency Agriculture and Plantation Office,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, cocoa development in Nabire is expected not only to focus on increasing harvest yields but also to encourage the growth of local agricultural processing industries. Cocoa beans have the potential to be processed into various value-added products, including cocoa powder and chocolate bars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through this development, local communities are expected to benefit not only from cultivation activities but also from opportunities to participate in the cocoa production and processing supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Central Papua Provincial Government hopes that within the next three to four years, Nabire will develop into a productive cocoa-producing region, with cocoa becoming one of the province’s leading commodities alongside coffee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Previously, the Ministry of Agriculture had prepared a 3,000-hectare cocoa plantation development program in Nabire Regency. The program consists of the rehabilitation of 1,000 hectares of existing plantations and the expansion of cultivation areas by an additional 2,000 hectares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To support the program, the Ministry of Agriculture has allocated a total of 3.6 million cocoa seedlings, consisting of three million primary seedlings and an additional 20 percent reserve to anticipate planting requirements in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beyond strengthening the plantation sector, the program is also expected to deliver direct benefits to local communities through their involvement in nursery activities and plantation development. Consequently, cocoa development in Nabire is expected to create employment opportunities, increase farmers’ incomes, and generate new business opportunities for communities across Central Papua.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
