The event, themed “Papuan Youth Preserving Traditions, Nurturing Unity, and Building Peaceful Villages,” brought together indigenous leaders and community members. The dialogue aimed to foster a spirit of nationalism while deepening the younger generation’s awareness of the importance of maintaining harmony and brotherhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
David Rumansara, Chairman of the Biak Numfor Indigenous Community Council (LMA), stated that the Youth Pledge should not be viewed merely as an annual commemoration. According to him, this occasion should serve as a reminder of the struggles endured by national heroes to secure and defend Indonesia\u2019s independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized that Papuan youth hold a strategic role in safeguarding unity within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), while simultaneously contributing to regional progress through their participation in various development initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Papuan youth must act as a driving force for unity, uphold indigenous customs, and take part in development efforts. The spirit of the Youth Pledge must be manifested through concrete actions that bring tangible benefits to the community,” said David.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A similar message was conveyed by indigenous leader Nehemia Ronsumbre\u2014known by the title Mananwir-Er Beba Ronsumbre<\/em>\u2014during the dialogue held in Swapodibo Village, Biak Kota, on October 24, 2026. He urged the younger generation to be capable of navigating the challenges of the modern era, including exercising wisdom when engaging with information circulating on social media. According to Nehemia, the ability to discern and filter information is crucial for young people, enabling them to make critical decisions, avoid misunderstandings, and maintain positive relationships within the community. He also encourages the younger generation to develop their personal skills and leverage technology for productive endeavors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, Kirenius Telenggen\u2014a religious and community leader from Puncak Jaya Regency\u2014has called on all segments of society to uphold security and order, ensuring that development in Central Papua can proceed effectively. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the common good and resolving issues through peaceful communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Security is not solely the responsibility of the authorities; it also requires the awareness and support of the entire community,” said Kirenius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During the event in Biak, residents also received aid packages containing basic necessities, such as rice, canned milk, coffee, tea, and cooking oil. This assistance is intended to help meet the needs of those requiring support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Through the spirit of the Youth Pledge (Sumpah Pemuda), these leaders hope that the youth of Papua will continue to cherish diversity, foster brotherhood, and contribute to development.
