The items were found at a honai, a traditional Papuan house, suspected of being used as a hideout by the VIII Soanggama Regional Command of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB). The location lies in a forest near the boundary between Kulindigi and Bulage villages, Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua Province.

The honai was located deep in the forest and blended into the surrounding natural environment. Trees, vegetation, and soil around the structure camouflaged the building, making it resemble a bunker.

During an inspection of the site, personnel discovered several items suspected of having been left behind by the group, including:

559 (five hundred and fifty-nine) spent 5.56 mm cartridge casings;

2 (two) sets of disassembled rifle components;

1 (one) rifle stock;

1 (one) rifle barrel;

Several rifle components and 3 (three) hand-operated rifle pumps;

1 (one) crescent-shaped karambit knife;

1 (one) Morning Star flag;

Several identification documents and personal records;

1 (one) report document from the TPNPB XIX Kemabu Intan Jaya Regional Command addressed to the Uwia Battalion;

1 (one) notebook bearing the stamp of the TPNPB Bula Battalion, Rifle Company A, Tanah Merah, VIII Intan Jaya Regional Command;

1 (one) notebook containing information on ammunition purchase and sale transactions;

Various electronic devices and items; and

1 (one) noken (traditional Papuan woven bag) and 1 (one) black-and-red jacket.

After completing the inspection and documentation of the findings, personnel destroyed the honai, which was suspected of being used as a temporary shelter or hideout by the armed group. The action was taken to prevent the site from being used again for similar purposes.

Head of Public Relations for the Damai Cartenz-2026 Operation, Senior Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., explained that the honai discovered by personnel was situated deep in the forest and blended into the surrounding natural environment. Vegetation and soil covering parts of the area made the location difficult to detect and gave it the appearance of a bunker.

“Based on the field search, the honai was located in the middle of the forest and blended into its surroundings. The vegetation and soil around the site made the structure difficult to detect, giving it the appearance of a bunker. During the inspection, personnel discovered various items and documents, including 559 spent 5.56 mm cartridge casings. These findings are currently being examined further to establish their origin and determine whether they may be connected to any alleged criminal activity,” Senior Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo said in a statement to the media on October 18, 2026.

He further explained that, following the inspection and documentation process, personnel proceeded to destroy the honai suspected of being used as a temporary shelter or hideout by the KKB VIII Soanggama Regional Command. The measure was intended to prevent the location from being reused for similar purposes.

“After the site and the items found there had been inspected and documented, the honai suspected of being used as a temporary shelter or hideout was destroyed.
