Jayapura \u2013 Bank Indonesia\u2019s Papua Representative Office is encouraging young people to strengthen their reading habits and improve their understanding of economics, financial management, and digital literacy through the 2026 Papua Literacy Festival, themed TIFA: Tumbuhkan Inspirasi dalam Festival Literasi Papua (Nurturing Inspiration Through the Papua Literacy Festival).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Held on October 6\u20137, 2026, at the Auditorium of Yapis Papua University (UNIYAP) in Jayapura City, the festival forms part of Bank Indonesia\u2019s efforts to develop a knowledgeable, critical-thinking, and adaptable younger generation capable of responding to technological advancements and the dynamics of the modern economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head of Bank Indonesia\u2019s Papua Representative Office, Warsono, emphasized that literacy is an essential foundation for young people in facing the challenges of an increasingly complex world. According to him, the ability to evaluate information, manage personal finances wisely, and use digital financial services safely must continue to be strengthened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn today\u2019s rapidly evolving information environment, the ability to distinguish accurate information, manage finances wisely, and conduct digital transactions safely is essential. A literate young generation in Papua is a key asset in building a progressive and competitive Papua toward Indonesia Emas 2045,\u201d Warsono said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that the Papua Literacy Festival goes beyond promoting reading habits. It is also designed to broaden young people\u2019s knowledge of financial management, payment systems, and developments in the digital economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The festival\u2019s opening ceremony was attended by Yapis Papua University Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, Dr. Ir. Irianto, S.T., M.T.; Vice Rector for General Affairs and Finance, Dr. Ir. Andung Yunianta, S.T., M.T.; as well as representatives from government institutions, educational organizations, PT Gramedia Asri Jayapura, and students from several universities in Jayapura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yapis Papua University welcomed Bank Indonesia\u2019s initiative, highlighting the strategic role of literacy activities in improving young people\u2019s knowledge and awareness of various aspects of life, particularly economics and finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The benefits of the festival are also expected to extend beyond university campuses and reach the wider community, helping to foster a stronger culture of literacy in Jayapura and across Papua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the two-day event, the 2026 Papua Literacy Festival featured a range of educational and inspirational activities, including a discussion of the book Anak Rantau with its author, Ahmad Fuadi; the Bank Indonesia Mengajar educational program; and Literacy Talks sessions featuring Samuel Ray, a financial and career content creator, and Tom Reumy, a lecturer and influencer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participants also had the opportunity to visit educational booths showcasing Bank Indonesia\u2019s library services, information on identifying authentic Indonesian rupiah banknotes, payment system education, and the use of digital transactions that are safe, convenient, and efficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through these activities, young people are expected not only to develop regular reading habits but also to apply their knowledge in everyday life. This includes making responsible financial decisions and using digital technology wisely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bank Indonesia Papua hopes that the Papua Literacy Festival will become a sustainable initiative that encourages a stronger culture of literacy among young people.
