Jayapura, Papua \u2013 The Jayapura Customs and Excise Office (KPPBC TMP C Jayapura) handed over 200 rounds of 5.56 mm caliber ammunition to the Investigation Sub-Task Force of the Peace Cartenz Police Task Force 2026, together with the Papua Regional Police Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum), on Monday (October 5, 2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The discovery began with information from the public regarding a suspected longboat carrying illegal goods bound for Papua New Guinea (PNG). On Saturday (October 3, 2026), at around 10:36 p.m. WIT, officers spotted a longboat matching the description provided. When officers attempted to conduct an inspection, the longboat’s crew tried to evade the officers and was seen throwing several items into the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officers subsequently conducted a search of the area and found three packages containing 34 slops, or 340 packs of tobacco products without excise stamps, as well as 200 rounds of 5.56 mm caliber ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head of the Jayapura Customs and Excise Office, Fungki Awaludin, said the illegal tobacco products would be handled by Customs and Excise, while the ammunition was handed over to the Papua Regional Police for further investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs for the illegal cigarettes, they fall under our authority, while the ammunition has been handed over to the Papua Regional Police through the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation for further action,\u201d Fungki said on Tuesday (October 6, 2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday (October 5, 2026), Customs and Excise officially handed over a black leather bag containing 200 rounds of 5.56 mm caliber ammunition to personnel from the Investigation Sub-Task Force of the Peace Cartenz Police Task Force 2026, together with investigators from the Papua Regional Police Directorate of General Criminal Investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the handover, Head of Public Relations of the Peace Cartenz Police Task Force 2026, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, said investigators would focus their efforts on determining the origin of the ammunition, the party that sent it, its intended destination, and the means of transportation used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRegarding the handover of the 200 rounds of ammunition, we will conduct a more focused and thorough investigation into who sent the ammunition, where it originated, and where it was intended to go. We will also take statements from several witnesses to help identify the means of transportation used,\u201d Yusuf said during a statement on Tuesday (October 6, 2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The investigation is aimed at determining the chain of ammunition distribution, including the parties who transported, received, or possessed the ammunition. The identities of the longboat’s crew members and the vessel used are also still under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
