Through the Bureau of Economic Affairs and Development Administration, the provincial government is preparing a number of strategic measures focusing on food availability, smoother distribution, and stronger coordination among relevant institutions.

Head of the Bureau of Economic Affairs and Development Administration of the Papua Provincial Secretariat, Andry, said that future inflation control efforts would adopt a more measurable and data-driven approach through the strengthening of an early warning system. One of the key instruments will be the food balance system, which is intended to identify potential supply disruptions and commodity price increases at an early stage.

In addition to maintaining the availability of essential goods, the provincial government is also encouraging higher local food production by making better use of the region’s resources. Agriculture, fisheries, and marine resources will play an important role in meeting public demand while increasing the utilization of locally produced food.

Efforts to increase production will also be supported by improvements in distribution. The government will therefore continue to strengthen infrastructure and logistical connectivity to ensure that food supplies can be distributed more efficiently to various parts of Papua and to prevent unnecessary price pressures.

Inter-agency coordination will also remain a key component of the strategy. The Papua Provincial Government will strengthen cooperation between the Provincial and Regency/City Regional Inflation Control Teams (TPID), Bank Indonesia, Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Bulog, the Food Task Force, regional government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders.

According to Andry, the success of inflation control should not be measured solely by awards or official achievements. More importantly, it should ensure that people can continue to obtain essential goods at affordable prices. For this reason, inflation-control measures will focus on protecting people’s purchasing power while ensuring adequate food supplies.

Papua’s achievement as one of the best-performing regions in inflation control in the Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and Papua region has encouraged the provincial government to maintain its performance. Going forward, strengthening food production, ensuring supply availability, and improving distribution will remain priorities in order to maintain price stability in Papua on a sustainable basis.

Jayapura — The Papua Provincial Government is strengthening its efforts to maintain the stability of essential commodity prices and control inflation across the region.
