Wamena \u2013 Strengthening human resources, expanding access to education, reducing poverty and accelerating food security are being highlighted as key components in advancing development in Papua Highlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deputy for Infrastructure at the Ministry of National Development Planning\/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Abdul Malik Sadat Idris, said several national programs could be implemented in Papua Highlands to support improvements in education, public welfare and the quality of human resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The programs include the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) initiative, school revitalization, People’s Schools, Garuda Excellence Schools, Free Health Check-ups (CKG), and education digitalization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe certainly hope that with the support of good internet connectivity in Papua Highlands, national programs under Presidential Instructions (Inpres), such as MBG, school revitalization, People’s Schools, Garuda Excellence Schools, CKG, and education digitalization, can be proposed and registered so that they can be established here to help improve the human resources of the younger generation of Papua Highlands,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Malik, local governments at both the provincial and regency levels need to promptly follow up on the national programs so that development and public welfare can be accelerated across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOther national programs such as Village Cooperatives (Kopdes) can also be followed up immediately to help reduce poverty in Papua Highlands. These national programs should be responded to positively so that there can be financial support from the central government to the regions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that People’s Schools are free government-run boarding schools under the Ministry of Social Affairs for children from underprivileged families, with the aim of breaking the cycle of poverty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Garuda Excellence Schools are designed as high-performing senior high schools focused on developing academic potential in science and technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe essence is that People’s Schools focus on accessibility and character, while excellence schools focus on global competitiveness. They need to be established soon in Papua Highlands so that children here can have a better future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beyond education and economic development, Malik also emphasized the importance of strengthening food, energy and water security to support sustainable economic growth in Papua Highlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLocal governments must also consider programs for self-sufficiency in food, energy and water to accelerate economic growth for communities in Papua Highlands. I previously helped with regional irrigation programs or DI in Yahukimo and Tolikara, and we hope that these programs are still functioning today,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The development of internet connectivity in Papua Highlands is also viewed as an important foundation for implementing development programs, particularly in education and digitalization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Greater coordination between the central and regional governments is expected to help expand educational access, improve human resources, create economic opportunities and strengthen food security as part of the continuing development of Papua Highlands.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
