Jayapura – The Papua Provincial Government, through the Papua Public Works and Housing Agency (PUPR), is prioritizing infrastructure development and improvement in several areas to support the development of agriculture, fisheries, road connectivity, and access to clean water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Acting Head of the Papua PUPR Agency Natir Renyaan said infrastructure development is being directed toward areas with agricultural and fisheries potential, including Jayapura, Yapen Islands, Waropen, Keerom, Supiori, and Biak districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFor the agricultural sector, rice development is being pursued in Keerom and Bonggo in Jayapura District. Meanwhile, for fisheries, we are promoting development in Depapre,\u201d Renyaan said in Jayapura on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to supporting productive sectors, the Papua PUPR Agency is also focusing on flood-prone areas in Jayapura City through the development of supporting infrastructure aimed at reducing the impact of flooding on local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Road improvements and clean water infrastructure are also being developed in Supiori and Biak districts. In Jayapura City, clean water provision is being focused, among other areas, on Polimak Dua and the Siborgonyi River, supported by a budget of around Rp5 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Renyaan explained that physical development financed through the 2026 initial regional budget had reached approximately 95 percent, while financial realization stood at around 40 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During discussions on the revised regional budget, the Papua PUPR Agency also received an additional budget of approximately Rp227 billion to support development programs in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Member of the Papua Provincial Legislative Council’s Commission IV, Wagus Hidayat, expressed support for infrastructure development and improvement programs implemented by the Papua PUPR Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He expressed hope that the additional funding would be allocated to priority programs and implemented optimally so that the benefits of development could be felt directly by the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Papua Provincial Government has also emphasized the importance of cooperation between the central and regional governments to accelerate infrastructure development and regional development across Papua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
