Jakarta – Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sukamta stressed that the Papua issue should be discussed comprehensively and should not be politicized through international forums, following remarks by Solomon Islands Prime Minister Matthew Cooper Wale during the General Debate of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sukamta said discussions concerning Papua should take into account various aspects, including national sovereignty, the protection of civilians, development, law enforcement, and security dynamics in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, Indonesia has a clear constitutional and legal position regarding Papua as an integral part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). Therefore, he called on all countries to respect the principles of sovereignty and non-interference in the domestic affairs of other states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCommission I of the DPR RI firmly rejects and will not tolerate any form of biased narrative delivered by the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands regarding Indonesia\u2019s sovereign territory,\u201d Sukamta said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the UN forum should be used to strengthen international cooperation and seek solutions to various global challenges, rather than becoming a platform for making unilateral accusations against other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sukamta also urged the Solomon Islands Government to respect international law and the principle of non-interference in relations between states. He said diplomacy in the Pacific region should instead be directed toward strengthening concrete partnerships among countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, Sukamta said discussions on human rights in Papua should also take into account civilians affected by armed violence, including teachers, health workers, children, and residents living in areas affected by conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe most fundamental human right is the right to live in safety,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He encouraged the government to continuously evaluate the law enforcement approach in Papua by prioritizing humanitarian principles, prevention, and the protection of civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sukamta emphasized that the Papua issue is complex and involves security, development, welfare, public services, and civilian protection. Therefore, he said, any discussion concerning Papua should consider all of these aspects in a balanced manner.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
