TIMIKA, CENTRAL PAPUA – Task Force Police Operation Peace Cartenz-2026, Mimika Regional Police of Central Papua Police, together with community leaders managed to pick up and evacuate Demerina Uamang (23), one of the nine residents who previously became victims of kidnapping by an armed criminal group (KKB) on August 17, 2026 in Jila, Mimika Regency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Demerina was successfully evacuated from Kampung Bela 1, Alama District, Mimika Regency, to Timika, Monday (9\/14\/2026). In the process, the joint team also received support from the Chairman of the Central Papua MRP, Agustinus Anggaibak, S.M., and the local village head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head of Public Relations of Operation Peace Cartenz-2026, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., said that the success of the evacuation was the result of a joint work between the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force, the Mimika Police, and community figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Alhamdulillah, today the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force together with the Mimika Police and assisted by community leaders in Mimika has succeeded in evacuating one survivor on behalf of Demerina Uamang,” said Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf when confirmed by the media, Monday (9\/14\/2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained, since the kidnapping incident on August 17, 2026, the search efforts for the victims continue to be carried out. Information about the whereabouts of the victim was then received on September 7, 2026 from a network in Jila District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At that time, a village head from Kampung Bela 1 came to Jila District to report that the community had found a survivor in the Bela area. Because the identity of the victim was not yet known, the Task Force then conducted an investigation and identification process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“At first they didn’t know who the victim was. Then we conduct an investigation and identification process. As a result, it is true that Demerina Uamang’s sister was a victim of the kidnapping that happened on August 17,” he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When found, Demerina was not alone. He was with a colleague, Yosina, who was later found to have passed away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Uamang’s sister is not alone. When he was found on September 7, with a colleague, namely Yosina’s sister. However, unfortunately, Yosina’s sister was found dead because her condition was very thin and did not receive food,” said Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, the two victims had survived for about 20 days in a very severe condition. Demerina was found in a weak state and then received treatment from the people of Kampung Bela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“They fought for 20 days in the forest, not eating and drinking. Likewise, Demerina Uamang’s sister was found in a weak physical condition. Then the villagers in Bela took the initiative to help take care of Demerina’s sister so that she could survive,” he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After receiving the information, the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force together with the Mimika Police and community leaders coordinated to prepare for the evacuation process. The pick-up effort was hindered by bad weather conditions so that the helicopter could not reach the location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This activity uses a helicopter belonging to the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force. However, after we planned, four days ago we could not enter the location at all due to the bad weather factor, so our helicopter could not penetrate there,” said the Head of Public Relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Monday morning, the weather conditions were considered possible so that the evacuation process could be carried out. A team consisting of Cartenz Peace Task Force personnel, community leaders, and village heads then picked up Demerina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This morning, Alhamdulillah, the weather was a bit good so we could go in. Supported by Cartenz Peace Task Force personnel with helicopters, accompanied by community leaders and village heads, we carried out an evacuation,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Demerina was then taken using the Bell Polri P-3002 Helicopter belonging to the Cartenz-2026 Peace Operation Police Task Force and arrived at the Mako Yon B Helicopter Platform Pioneer of the Central Papua Brimobda Sat at 09.08 WIT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Upon arriving in Timika, Demerina was immediately taken to Bhayangkara Timika Hospital to undergo a medical examination and receive medical treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We took him to Bhayangkara Hospital in Timika for a health checkup and medication to support his physique so that he would be good and stable again. Now it is still in the process of recovery,” explained Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added, Demerina’s condition that is still in shock makes him unable to be questioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Meanwhile, we have not been able to ask Demerina’s sister to provide information because her condition is indeed very shocking. Maybe he saw how his colleague, Yosina’s sister, died next to him,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Head of Public Relations also said that Yosina had been traditionally buried by the people in Kampung Bela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, rescue efforts for seven other survivors continue to be carried out. The Head of Public Relations asked the people in Timika and its surroundings to remain calm and not easily trust information that has not been verified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Especially to the people in Timika and its surroundings, we ask them to remain calm, because the police, the Cartenz Peace Task Force and the Polres will still try to evacuate other survivors,” said Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head of Operation Peace Cartenz-2026, Inspector General of Police. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., said that the success of the evacuation is the result of a joint work that prioritizes the safety of the victims and maintains the conductivity of the kamtibmas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Our priority is to ensure the victims can be picked up and evacuated safely. Communication with all parties is the main key in maintaining the conductivity of kamtibmas. In this process, coordination and patience are needed because the terrain and weather conditions are one of the factors that must be taken into account. After successfully evacuating, we make sure the victim gets a medical examination and treatment first,” said Head of Operation Peace Cartenz-2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Deputy Head of Operation Peace Cartenz-2026, Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., explained that the evacuation process was carried out in a measurable manner by considering safety factors, terrain conditions, weather, and the situation in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The pick-up process cannot be done in a hurry. We must ensure all aspects of security and safety are met. When conditions allow, the team immediately carries out the evacuation and brings the victim to Timika for a medical examination,” said Deputy Head of Operation Peace Cartenz-2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, Nelson Mom as the victim’s family revealed that Demerina and other victims experienced a very severe condition while being held hostage. According to him, the victims were said to have no food while they were under the control of the armed group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“During the hostages, we experienced a very difficult situation. We didn’t get food and the condition was very heavy. We are grateful that Demerina has now been successfully picked up and can get an examination at Timika,” said Nelson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Task Force Police Operation Peace Cartenz-2026 appealed to the public who had information about the whereabouts of the other seven victims to immediately convey it to the security forces or the authorities. The public is also asked not to take their own actions that can endanger the safety of the victims and other residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
