Puncak \u2013 The Damai Cartenz-2026 Police Task Force, Puncak Sector, has apprehended a man identified as JT, alias W, who was listed as a wanted suspect by the Puncak Police in connection with an alleged attempted murder case involving Antonius Padang in Ilaga District, Puncak Regency, Central Papua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
JT, alias W, was apprehended at a honai in Jenggernok Village, Gome District, Puncak Regency, on Thursday (September 3, 2026) at approximately 7:27 a.m. Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT). During the operation, officers also secured a woman identified as E.W, alias K.W, who was with JT at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The arrest was carried out based on Police Report Number LP\/B\/16\/IX\/2023\/SPKT\/Polres Puncak, dated September 2, 2023, concerning an alleged attempted murder of Antonius Padang on the road in front of the local government housing complex in Kago Village, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
JT, alias W, was subsequently listed as a wanted suspect under Wanted Person Notice Number DPO\/14\/XII\/Res.1.6\/2024\/Reskrim, dated December 16, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Head of the Public Relations Task Force of Operation Damai Cartenz-2026, Police Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., said JT was suspected of being involved in the shooting of Antonius Padang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn this case, JT, alias W, is suspected of shooting Antonius Padang once using a firearm. As a result of the incident, the victim sustained a gunshot wound to his right knee,\u201d Yusuf said in a statement on Thursday (September 3, 2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that JT was also suspected of monitoring the situation during the theft of an official police firearm belonging to personnel at the KP2 Police Post at Aminggaru Airport, near Kago Market in Ilaga District, on February 1, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the law enforcement operation, a joint team from the Damai Cartenz-2026 Police Task Force, Puncak Sector, conducted an operation targeting JT’s whereabouts in Jenggernok Village, Gome District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following his apprehension, JT was taken to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Puncak Police for questioning and further legal proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yusuf said investigators would continue to examine JT’s alleged role and possible involvement in other criminal activities, including the potential involvement of other individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe will further investigate the role of JT and his group in the alleged criminal acts. Of course, we will continue to examine and develop this case,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also appealed to the public to remain calm and not be easily provoked by unverified information or calls from certain groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe hope that members of the public will not be easily provoked by news or appeals from certain groups seeking to interfere with the legal process following JT’s apprehension,\u201d Yusuf emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regarding the application of criminal provisions, investigators will determine the relevant legal provisions based on the results of the investigation, available evidence, and applicable laws and regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The application of legal provisions to a case that occurred in 2023 will also take into account the principles of criminal law, transitional provisions, and the effective period of the applicable legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, E.W, alias K.W, who was apprehended together with JT, is also undergoing questioning to determine whether she has any connection to JT’s whereabouts or activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based on preliminary information, the woman claimed to be JT’s wife, although the two are not registered as being legally married.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From the location of the arrest, officers secured a number of items for examination and investigative purposes, including two backpacks, one waist bag, one hat, one tactical jacket, one pair of field boots, two wallets, one mobile phone case, and one bracelet bearing the Morning Star symbol, along with other personal belongings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officers also secured several bladed weapons, mobile phones, vehicle keys, personal equipment, and other items, which will be further examined to determine their relevance to the ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2026, Inspector General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., said the apprehension of JT was part of the ongoing law enforcement process against a wanted suspect connected to a case being handled by the Puncak Police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLaw enforcement is carried out based on the case and the available evidence. Every process involving an individual who has been designated as a wanted suspect must be conducted in accordance with the law, professionally, proportionately, and while respecting the legal rights of all parties,\u201d Faizal said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of Operation Damai Cartenz-2026, Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., said JT had been handed over to investigators at the Puncak Police for further legal proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe individual has been secured and is currently undergoing examination at the Puncak Police. We urge the public to remain calm, not to provide protection or assistance to individuals being sought in connection with legal proceedings, and not to be easily provoked by unverified information,\u201d Adarma said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
